Love Her Wild / The Dark Between Stars by Atticus

Sounds like: Waiting for Love by Avicii | Past Lives by BORNS
Feels like: The stories I’ll tell my daughter after her first heartbreak.

Meet Atticus. The most famous Canadian poet you’ve never heard of. He’s from British Columbia, “in the kind of older 20’s” and currently lives in Canada, Europe, and LA. At the time of this post he has 1.1 million followers on Instagram which is where he got his start.

His third book of poetry, The Truth About Magic, is set to be released September 10th, 2019. It builds on the pains and joys of romance explored in his New York Times Bestseller, The Dark Between Stars, to take us on a vibrant and transcendent journey of self-discovery and purpose.

If you’ve read some of my other poetry reviews you know how hard it is for me to find an Instapoet that I believe to be a credible artist. Atticus is the epitome and leader of Instapoets everywhere.

“I sometimes see Instagram poetry as a gateway drug, as it were, to poetry and to more classical poetry.”

Atticus

Fame doesn’t interest Atticus and has so far never revealed his true identity. He says it’s easier to be more vulnerable, personal, and truthful when he’s anonymous. I really connected with that. The fact that, to him, “being a poet means growing up and having to be a real man.”

A troubled youth
burnt me alive
the poet came from the ashes
the words came from the fire.

The fact that he writes “what I feel and not what I think I should feel” speaks volumes to his work. It’s palpable, authentic, raw, veracious, and purposeful. It’s relevant to anyone and specific to everyone. These poems are not just poems, they are experiences. To read them is to fall in love and dream and live.

“I’ve spent a life chasing stories to tell when I’m old.”

Atticus

These are the stories I’ll tell my daughter late at night after her first heartbreak and the books I’ll hand her to fuel her passion for a life lived wild.
