No mercy ahead….
The Witch Doesn’t Burn In This One by Amanda Lovelace is the best book of feminist poetry ever. It’s cutthroat and true to the bone. The harsh realities we all face as women are put on full display here with no remorse or apologies. In short… Sorry not sorry. Lovelace pays homage to women’s marches rape victims and survivors.
She talks about survivors of eating disorders, horrible histories and frightful futures along with bad beginnings and has put out an empowering selection that every woman needs to read. With this book of poetry Amanda Lovelace hands females everywhere the gasoline they need to reignite the fire in their bellies.
I want to take a second to talk about the poetry of today as well as the marketing behind it all. Everytime I turn around there’s a new Rupi Kaur look-a-like and since I’ve read Kaur and gotten over her Insta-poet queen hype, I’m trying to give these other artists a chance as well. I found Amanda Lovelace before I ever stumbled into Kaur’s kingdom and I can easily say Lovelace deserves a palace of her own. She really stands out among other poets of today’s mass market brand.
But the princess can save herself; Amanda Lovelace doesn’t need my help defending herself or her work. This is not a comparison between Kaur and Lovelace. It’s more of a discussion about the rise in popularity of poetry in the past few years, which is something I think we can all be thankful for.
My job here is to convince you to pick up The Witch Doesn’t Burn In This One because of it’s empowering stance on so many hushed topics.
Amanda Lovelace’s fourth book of poetry will be out March 5th, 2019 and it will be titled:
The Mermaid’s Voice Returns In This One.
